Can some Lawyer come forward to protect this van uncle. In my opinion Disability is not a hindrance to perform a job of anyone's choice.
Why give lot of publicity to a innocent thing like this who had been earning money through lot of hardship and at the same time preventing accidents also. In this wonder of Asia when news about BIG people are suppressed these innocent people are taken for bites.

I agree that "according to the law" he was doing a wrong thing. OK but the trial given to him is not fair. It is his only source of income and how can a man like that pay such a big bail if they know he is a poor man. Another thing we people say we shouldn't discourage physically challanged people and we are the same people who put rules & regulation against them. make some way where physically challenge people also can work with normal people hand in hand.we are the ones who making seperations. I have seen other countries treat physically challanded people very well( Specially Japan), they make their environment where physically chalanged people also can work.
If either can not be done find a way where they can survive.There are lot normal people who dirve like crazy and do accident. but they won't get punished likes this. Cancel their license also then. I don't think the judge will read this comments but if they did.Please do a fair judgment on this man again.

Driving a school van with only one hand cannot be accepted but we should appreciate his hard work for a living. The officials should be more lenient in these type of cases. They should provide this person with a suitable means of living.

There are so many disable people are driving the vehicles around the world. That is their right(With equip with necessary equipment). In SL law is only for innocent people but not for the murderers like duminda or mervin.
Political Murderers are protected under SL law but innocent people are punished.

Even if this man was a thief, now he is leading a good life. Be happy about it.
But now we have put himself to rob again.
Cant disabled people work in Sri Lanka? He is not a encumberance to the society and he is leading an example.
I know someone who drove a vehicle nearly 20 years in Sri Lanka with one eye. He was like that from birth. Now he is in USA working for the US government as a trainer of staff, and he is driving there too.
Sampath bank recruits deaf and dumb youth to count cash. They work very efficiently. There is only one person in that dept to answer the phone. But the productivity is 100 %. The disabled people can do things better than normal people most times.
The RMV should test his driving the same way as a normal person. Then grant the Driving license.
The judge should not punish him. But look at opportunities to make him continue his job if he is not a threat to society.
I hope the President look at these cases and make a law for the disabled people to lead a normal life in Sri Lanka.
He has a right to live the same way we do. We are lucky to have two hands and two legs and our brain. We never know tomorrow we may lose one of them, same as him. How will the Sri Lankan legal system look at us then? If one loses a part of the body, is that person going to be looked after by the state?
We need new systems to look after the disabled. Their families have to live too.

Judges cannot give judgments as they like. He has given a judgment according to the prevailing law.If there is a clause to say that a person should have both hands in order to apply for a driving license he wouldn't have got through his driving test. But a person who possess a driving license looses his arm after some time should have gone to the RMV office and verified whether he was entitle to drive a vehicle there after.The problem is more complicated when a person of that sort is allowed to drive a van carrying school children.

Topof all I really appreciate the good job he has been doing for 19 years.May be he could have been able to do the job safely as he is always extra causious, any way just imaging if he had met with an accident and as a result several children lost thier lives...how the parents would have reacted.. how the public would have blamed the authorities for their loose responsibility.
in this kind of situations we have to look at it very carefully, not just to comment emotionally. I believe he has got caught to the law even at this stage for his good.
now if somebody can come forward to offer him an employement that is what should happen -impartial citizan

He was a safe driver..Parents believed him and supported him to feed his family.
What can he do without this job? Will someone (company or government office) recruit him at this age and without a hand?
Of course he has to do something like selling lotteries or begging in buses and trains.
He didn't do any bad jobs like smuggling or stealing..
He was wrong to drive like this..but he was a good man..
Government should support him..
